THE 10 COMMANDMENTS of LEADERSHIP

1.    Treat yourself like you own the company. You really work for yourself. You make the sale. You earn the paycheck and commission check. No manager wants you to earn less…they want you to produce and earn more…it puts more into their paycheck, as well!! When you do well...they do well.

2.    Make yourself indispensable…by producing. If someone is going to get promoted…it will be the superstar!! Don’t ask for a raise…earn it!! Don’t tell everyone how wonderful you are…show them!!

3.    Make yourself “fireproof”. Superstars are sought by customers and managers, as well. If you want a long term relationship with the company you work with you must be the “standout”. Average producers are replaced by “standouts’. Corporations cannot afford to lose “standouts.” Be a “standout!!”

4.    Always question your abilities. Can I do better? Can I produce more? The average person is satisfied. The person who questions is always seeking to do better. Your attitude will determine your abilities every time!! Show yourself and others that words like “can” and “will” and “trust” are the foundation of who you are!! Of course be consistent…it shows self respect and respect for others.

5.    Look like and be the person you want to be. When you see a star they always act and look like a star…always!! Prove to yourself…not only to others…that you can do it!! Accomplishments are contagious. When you accomplish you want to do more because you can. And now you become a mentor to all around you. You are the “go to” person!!

6.    Recognize your competencies and praise others who are competent. Giving praise to others takes nothing away from you. It makes you look smarter for being able to recognize greatness in others. Get organized. It is a sign of self respect. Sloppy work produces sloppy results!!

7.    Be the best “active listener.” If you do not take the time to really understand and appreciate your customers’ needs and wants then your sales will be hit and miss. Listening always involves being active in the conversation…not just shutting up. “Active listeners” engage others into telling them what they want so that your response is appropriate.

8.    Have a genuine concern for yourself and others…always!! This is the only way to show an understanding of what the buyer wants and needs. Don’t ever “sell”…”provide” the buyer your product or service and you will gain trust as a foundation of this relationship.

  1. Be a leader…of yourself…and others!! Leaders take charge, create new pathways, rise to greater heights…and understand that this is a process that takes time!! Even if you are new at work…be a leader with a great attitude and a sense of pride!! Leaders “Take and Make Opportunities.” Sometimes customers appear…sometimes you have to tell everyone within the sound of your voice what you do and that you do it the best!! This creates customers who might have gone elsewhere.

10. Always…always…always… determine your target and take aim…and aim high. You will never hit a target that you are not aiming at. If you set your sight low you will only have a chance to hit a low target.  Surprise yourself and others. Aim high!!
